Financial accountability for your screen time
ScreenLeash tracks your website usage with a cumulative model and charges escalating penalties when you cross your limits. Inspired by Beeminder, built specifically for screen time.
Designed to actually work
Every feature exists because willpower alone doesn't. Each mechanism is grounded in behavioral economics and commitment device theory.
No-buffer limit
Today's limit = usage through yesterday + your daily rate. Unused time doesn't roll over. Cross the limit and you breach.
Escalating Penalties
First breach is free. Then penalties double every time — ₹50, ₹100, ₹200, ₹400 — up to a cap you set. They never reset automatically.
Rerail
After a breach, the line snaps to your usage + cooldown so you're not stuck. Next day's limit = yesterday's usage + rate (no extra buffer).
Continuous Penalty
During a binge, breaches keep firing at the cooldown interval. You can't just "accept the penalty" and binge freely — each extra period costs more.
7-Day Akrasia Horizon
All setting changes take 7 days to apply. You can't weaken your commitments in the heat of the moment. New goals take effect immediately.
50% Donated
Half of all penalty revenue goes to charity. Your loss becomes someone else's gain — but you don't get to pick the cause.
50% of every penalty is donated
We keep half to sustain the service. The other half goes to charitable organizations — chosen by us, not by you. That's deliberate: if you got to pick a cause you love, the penalty would feel like a donation, not a deterrent. The pain has to stay painful.
Read why we built it this wayStanding on the shoulders of Beeminder
We openly acknowledge that ScreenLeash is inspired by Beeminder, a brilliant commitment device for quantified self-improvement. Beeminder is designed for manual data entry — you log your progress and it keeps you honest.
But screen time is different. It needs real-time, automatic tracking. It needs deferred respite (not immediate, or you'd binge through it). It needs continuous penalties during binges. ScreenLeash takes Beeminder's core insight — money on the line works — and rebuilds it for the specific problem of screen time.
